Auto manufacturing in the Philippines is an endangered species | AutoIndustriya

Quote:

Every vehicle built in the Philippines costs an extra $1500 (more or less) to make compared to if it was made in other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, or Indonesia. That means that every Toyota Vios, Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4, Honda City, Honda BR-V and Nissan Almera that rolls out of the assembly line cost about PhP 75,000 more than if it came from a factory in other ASEAN nations.

Hi! I'm planning to buy my first car (as a college student) and I'm currently looking for a nice daily driver.
I set my eyes on a Civic EG Hatch and I'm wondering if its still worth to buy one in 2020?

My titos are recommending to buy the Civic FD instead but It's out of my budget of around 150k

Please recommend me any other good cars for daily driving with a budget of around 150k. Thanks!

Has anyone installed a front bull bar sa kinabit sa likod ng licence place? I want to have one para nakalagay ako ng additional fog lamps (seen a Hella Comet 550).... Should I pursue this plan? by the way, I would only use those extra fog lamps during provincial trips and heavy rains or total dark streets/roads....

What Was Your First Job?

What was your first job? Did you go corporate or straight into business? Are you still in that industry or has life taken you to a different path?

Reminisce the good old days of youth or give advice to the younger folks starting out. :)

To start - I took a job at a petroleum company after graduating college.

Fun job that brought me to different places around the country and introduced me to businessmen who helped widen my worldview to more than just corporate. Pay was pretty good relative to other companies and the perks were great.

Have since moved industries for a faster pace, more learning, and of course greener pastures.

Has anyone applied for an online CTPL instead of availing the ones near/inside LTO during renewal process? Mas mura kasi at nakalagay ieemail lang policy compare sa mga stalls sa lto which charge 1k+. Kindly share your experience, im looking to avail the online once I renew this year.

Franchises that are not worth your hard earned money $$$.

Survey lang.
During the franchise expo, I was enticed to invest my savings on one franchise.
But due to the hassle of getting permits from Government and Mall Owners, my wife and I decided not to pursue our ambition to leave the corporate world.
Blessing in disguise, those who availed the franchise(s) did not do well.

I will not mention the franchises names but below are the products that they sell.

1. Takoyaki
2. Mango Grahams
3. Fries with Drinks on a Cup

Possible reasons

1. Those takoyaki's are not authentic. Taste is different and the ingredients are mostly vegetables.
Original takoyaki has a strong flavor of squid. Still love the old "samurai" takoyaki.

2. Not advisable during cold weather months. Price is too much for just a simple mango, ice cream and graham.

3. Taste & Price. Although the competitor fries is a bit pricey, people specially children still like the taste and texture of the fries made by Potato Corner.

Coronavirus shuts down Hyundai SUV factory in South Korea

The coronavirus pandemic has had a disastrous effect on the global market. In the automotive segment, automakers closed its factories in China to prevent the virus from spreading even more. Recently, the 2020 Geneva Motor Show was canceled as Swiss authorities imposed a nationwide ban on mass gatherings. Now, Hyundai has been affected by the coronavirus too, shutting down one of its factories in South Korea.

Hyundai Motor shut down one of its factories in South Korea after a worker tested positive for COVID-19. Specifically, its Ulsan facility which produces the Santa Fe, Tucson, Palisade, and the Genesis GV80 SUV models. Hyundai operates five factories in Ulsan, with the said plant responsible for about 30% of the brand’s global production, employing 34,000 workers.

As a preventive measure, the automaker has instructed workers who were in close contact with the infected employee to undergo self-quarantine. Furthermore, the company says they have “taken steps to have them tested for possible infection.” They would also be disinfecting the whole factory as a safety measure.

South Korea has become the second-worst hit country by the coronavirus outside of China, with over 4,000 reported cases. Majority of which have been recorded in Daegu, which is less than an hour away from Ulsan.

Hyundai has not announced when the production of vehicles in the said plant would resume. However, work continues on at the other four factories at Hyundai’s Ulsan plant.

If you recently purchased a brand new Santa Fe, Tucson or a Palisade from the dealership there's no need to worry. As reported, the chances of COVID-19 coronavirus surviving in transit appear to be very low. So, it is unlikely that you would get infected by driving your new Hyundai.

Paano naman kaya yung sa mga china made models ng Hyundai tulad ng Reina? :wonder:

Toyota Innova: Back Door suddenly won't open

I have a Toyota Innova 2003 model J variant (Diesel). May nakainstall na auto lock mechanism yun sasakyan. Just yesterday, gumagana pa yun likod na pinto, nabubuksan ko pa, but today, it won't open anymore, don't know why. If I open from outside if it is unlock, it cannot be open. When I use the key directly at the back, it won't open either, parang ang tigas ipihit kapag ioopen. So I try to open the door from the inside, it seems for this model, parang walang way para buksan from inside yun back door.

Saan ko kaya pwede ipaayos ito? I am in manila area, hopefully malapit sa lugar ko. Or any suggestions what I can try doing myself. Thank you.

Hello po mga Sirs! Need your advices. You see pinacheck ko po yun leak sa may makina ng Honda Civic 2001 VTiS ko and nakita ng mechanic na sa cylinder head nanggagaling. So binigyan nya ko ng quote for the labor na 4K. Ok lang po ba ang ganun for the time being? Thank you in advance sa mga mag advise.

Help me choose a coding car

Planning to get a 2nd car by this august and would like some help choosing.

Requirements:
  • AT - prefer conventional, pero I'll take CVT basta hindi nissan
  • Longevity/durability/reliability - planning to keep the car for 15yrs/150,000km
  • Driver's car - Owner driven, gusto ko #1 ang driver kung hindi #1 tied at #1
  • Push Start button and rear view camera. Or atleast a switch blade key kung walang push start
  • center console high enough to support my leg. - Test drive a Brio and sumakit paa ko dahil walang masandalan so want something na may masasandalan ang legs ko.
  • Power adjustable side mirrors

Budget - 1.2m max
Current car - 2013 Civic. No plans to sell

Initially choosing between Vitara and HR-V pero with suzuki putting vitara on life support, kinda drop na cya sa list ko. HR-V I think is too expensive for me but I love the deep cockpit. Looking at it, current civic (1.8e) seems to be the best choice pero magmumukha akong civic fanboy if I drive 2 civics, back to back generation pa...nothing wrong with it I guess, pero I want to keep this as last resort.

I'm also looking at the Jazz and City, pero thinking about it kinda not worth the 1m price tag. Maybe bababa ito with the new Jazz around the corner and honda no longer manufacturing the City in PH, still though unless bumaba ito ng ~900k, I think much better buy ang civic. I rather get a city than a vios for the same price though, no offence...

I think out na ang Altis since nakatago ang 12v and usb sa loob ng armrest. I need this for the Dashcam, unless may offered work around si Toyota?

I'm not considering the mini MPVs like rush, xpander and br-v, dahil I won't be carrying people in it and I want a fun car. Unless you guys have insight on these cars that they are fun to drive.

Mazda is out due to needing deep cycle batteries and very expensive prices. May deep cycle batteries ba sa labas ng casa? My friend that has a CX-5 told me motolite does not offer Mazda batteries outside of casa...basically ielope is a nightmare and kakainin lng ng battery savings mo sa gas.

China made cars are out due to longevity, seriously I don't want to gamble at this time. And maybe medyo politics pero the next president may take away the free trade agreement with china. Sa mga taga manila alam nyo naman nangyari sa roxas and carriedo during Atienza then what happened when Lim took over again. The Lavida is tempting though but with ancient platform (from 1996), I don't think so. Coolray is cool, pero from reviews, it's not a fun car, just a very high-tech car.

Hyundai is out too due to HARI.

I'm interested in Pick-ups pero I think they are too wide for my office parking (2m lang ang width sa office parking) and too long for my home parking (10m length x ~3m width stacked parking 4.6m na civic so medyo bumber to bumber ito). I can try to borrow a pick-up from a friend to see kung kakasya if these are better for me. Pero prices are very tempting.

Sorry kung mas madami ako tinnaggal kesa sa kinonsider, pero I wanted a reliable car that will not give me headache for the next 15yrs. So wanted safe choices and don't want shouting matches with casa or going all over manila to find parts. And I also think I was spoiled by the civic kahit na ito ung worst generation ng civic, I find madami considerations na ginawa honda sa interior deisgn na I don't think I can live without.

Salamat sa lahat ng bumasa at magcocomment.
